One of the most important things you can do before going for an interview is to do some research about the company you're interviewing for. You may think “Well, I'll find out more about them in the interview.” But don't make that mistake. Here are 3 reasons why you should research the company BEFORE an interview.

You Gain Confidence

Knowing the Ins and Outs of a business means you can speak to why you would be a great fit not just for the role but the organisation too. Thoroughly read the job description but also research all you can about the company so that you can cite specific reasons for applying there. Understanding the skills needed will help you explain why you are the perfect person for this role.

You Identify Red Flags

If you find any red flags whilst searching for information on the business, such as a bad Glassdoor review, the interview is a great time to bring it up. It is better to know now, than AFTER accepting a role.

You create a great first Impression

First impressions matter. Hiring managers want to know that they are bringing on someone who is proactive and won't just wait to be told what to do. Showing what you already know through research is a great way to do that. It also shows that you have an interest in their business.

There are lots of ways to research company: Having a thorough look at their website and social media channels, looking at any news or blog articles that mention them, and finding out who their competitors are. You should also know the company’s mission statement, any recent achievements and who is interviewing you!
